Role-play relationship problems with your friends, augmented by AI, so everyone’s problems can be heard by a human.

Overview

01

All problems are interpersonal relationship problems. From social networks to excessive AI chatbots, tech is disabling our courage to speak with each other. We must relearn how to ask for help.

You might have one therapist but ten times as many peers with experience closer to your own. The first people we turn to in crisis are our friends, not our therapists, yet we often fear sharing personal issues with the people best placed to hear them.

Enact is an application built on Enactivism, Individual Psychology, and Method Acting. You enact a difficult conversation with a friend: you play yourself, your friend plays the person you’re struggling to talk to. The system guides the process and an AI layer records and summarizes each section, so you can take your key learnings into the real conversation.

Understanding the Role

Getting into Character

15 minutes

We are almost ready to enact this conversation. Please find a comfortable location, preferably one in which you both can be seated next to one another. First, Jordan, try to warm up what it is like to embody the role of Alex.

Takeaways from your previous conversation

Sam has been quietly frustrated with Alex over late-night noise and dishes left in the sink, but avoids bringing it up because they value the friendship and worry about seeming petty. The goal is to ask for a few shared house rules without making Alex feel attacked.

Summary

Key Story Points

What a journey! You two have come a long way. We hope our exercise has helped you to purge, play, and practice, and strengthen your relationship as friends and comrades. Here is a summary of the key story points and insights from your conversation.

Insights from Your Role-Play

Sam opened by naming what they appreciate about living with Alex, then described two specific moments instead of a pattern. When Jordan, playing Alex, got defensive, Sam slowed down and asked what Alex needed from the space too. The scene ended with a proposal: quiet hours after midnight on weeknights and a shared dish rota.

Insights from Your Closing Discussion

Jordan noticed Sam relaxed once they stopped rehearsing a speech and started asking questions. Both agreed that leading with appreciation made the request easier to hear. Sam wants to have the real conversation this weekend, over breakfast rather than late at night.

Quotes

I don’t want this to be a big deal. I just want us both to like coming home.
What would make the apartment feel like yours too?

The 3 Ps

02

Purge, Play, Practice. First purge the emotional tension you’ve been holding, because acting out the situation with a third party leads to catharsis. From renewal, play with the situation: try new approaches, consider other perspectives, learn to forgive. Then practice the scene with emotional maturity and sound arguments, prepared for the real thing.
